I'm a big fan of your podcasts. In one of your teachings, you said, "If you just hear an idea and take action, the chance of you achieving your goal is 10%. If you plan how you will achieve that goal, you will have a 50% chance of success. However, if you have a mentor, you will have a 90% chance of sucess."

Finding willing mentors is tough. Not many people are willing to part with their time. You also said that your network will determine your net worth. Another problem is finding other people who are equally ambitious. Do you have any advice?

This is one of my favorite and most often asked questions.

Mentors, advisors, and coaches will be the #1 determining factor in the speed and height of your success.

Here are a few key points:

  • Most people seek help with an "I need" or "I want" mentality. They should be thinking about the value and benefit that they can create for their potential mentors as well.

  • Study that person; do your research and figure out what they value. Perhaps they would appreciate you:

    • Creating a turnkey revenue opportunity for them.
    • Generating free publicity for them.
    • Introducing them to important contacts or a new audience.
    • Doing something for their favorite charity.

  • Take inventory of the skills, assets, and contacts that you bring to the table which can help them.

  • You should not ask or expect "something for nothing." You will have much greater success when seeking mentors if you appeal to their self-interest rather than their sense of obligation or good will.

Remember, "value" is the greatest attracting force of money and support in the world. So, always begin by identifying the benefit that you can create for the other person.
